This past year, Keep Fish Wet partnered with the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission (GLIFWC) to create Walleye in Our Hands, a series of species-specific best practices to help guide anglers targeting walleye.
This past fall, we turned the infographic from the project into metal signs and distributed them at boat launches and trailheads around Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. By putting signs where anglers gather and gear up for a day on the water, we’re making these science-backed best practices accessible right where they will be put to use.
These shared spaces offer an opportunity to reach anglers before they head out, helping make best-practices part of the conversation from the start. Whether someone is a lifelong walleye angler or new to the fishery, a simple reminder at the right time can help them make informed decisions that support the fish and fisheries they care about.
If you’re fishing in the waters of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan, keep a lookout for these signs and let us know if you see them!
